Every five years or so, Neenah Paper refreshes and revamps a gradeline. This year all the Classic lines are getting a make over and it’s definitely one you don’t want to miss. Seriously, this one is absolutely fantastic! After 18 months of market research in 12 different cities, Neenah Paper and long time partner, Design Army, has introduced 8 new colors and two new finishes to the Classics family.
FIRST UP…THE NEW COLORS. Bare White: We know what you’re thinking. Yet another white? But this subtle, slightly off-white falls right between Avon Brilliant White and Classic Natural White. Not too white. Not too cream. It’s just right. Cool Gray: Light shade that bridges the transition between Antique Gray and Pewter Cadet Gray: Rich gray tone to round out the existing gray offering Chambray: Fresh twist on denim blue Aubergine: Deep color reminiscent of the rich purple of fresh eggplant Military: Warm, rich, natural looking green Cobalt: Timely and trending vivid blue Imperial Red: Fresh, bright and fashionable red

The Appleton Coated grade, Utopia, has been streamlined with the following changes:
UTOPIA ONE IS DISCONTINUED.
It will be available on a making basis with a minimum of 60,000# per basis weight and finish. Substitute:Utopia Premium.
It is a commercial shade match to Utopia One which will keep printing and color consistent with jobs that were printed in the past. Substitute: U1X.
This is the “green” sister of Utopia One and contains increased post consumer recycled content of 20% instead of 10% and is FSC certified. U1X is a different and bluer white shade and has an increased brightness of 97, which is ideal for vibrant printing and 4-color photography.

Mohawk is starting off the new year with a boom with the redesign of their Via & Carnival swatchbook. If you recall, a couple of years ago, Mohawk introduced a new slimline swatch format that accordion folded into a 3 x 9 book. However, the format did not prove to be very user-friendly and Mohawk decided to return to the standard 6 x 9 format…plus a little more. This book will definitely stand out on your shelves with it’s two inch, bright, orange spine and weighing in at a whopping two pounds. (We remind you to lift with your legs!) Continue reading
Update your cabinets with the new Finch Fine swatchbook. The cover looks identical to the old one so check the date on the back of the book to make sure it says 2014. If you have anything different…it’s time for a new one.
One big change to note in the Finch Fine Color Copy grade is the elimination of the 100 text, 65 cover and 100 cover. The remaining weights are 24, 28, 32 text and 80 cover in three digital sizes (8.5 x 11, 17 x 11, 18 x 12). For those needing that heavier 100 cover, we suggest looking at the Mohawk Color Copy line, which is stocked on our floor.
Here’s a quick rundown on the family of Finch Fine papers that will have you covered from offset to digital printing: Continue reading
